Dock Post 5/22/08

May 22, 2008

I finally returned home last night from the longest fishing/driving streak of my life. I am beyond ready for a break and so are Anne and the kids. It’s so good to be home.

As far as the last event on Beaver Lake, well…at least I salvaged a check. After not being able to put any largemouth in the live-well on day 2, I feel very fortunate to have stayed in the top 75. The tournament was a very close one and I could have finished around 20th if everything would have worked out perfectly. It was also very possible to make the cut (top 10) where I was fishing. So I’m a bit disappointed in knowing what could’ve happened, but happy to at least get a good check.

I took a guy who works for Kellogg’s out fishing on Saturday and wouldn’t you know it, I caught a couple 4 pounders and some other big fish. We were in the same spot I started both days and only fished for three hours. That’s frustrating! Alvin Shaw and I fished the CMA tournament a couple years ago on Beaver. We also went to the area I fished for two days in the tournament and finished 2nd or 3rd and had big bass too. I’ll whack them there one of these years at the right time I guess.

Some of you may have heard about the Kellogg’s Team’s interest in Ping Pong over the years. Well, we went at it again at Beaver Lake after a Kellogg’s Dinner. Alvin was staying at a big house on the water with a ping pong table. We played well into the night. Here are all the players and what went down. Myself, Jim Tutt, Alvin Shaw, Clark Wendlandt, Michael (from Kellogg’s) and Andy and Matt (FSN Cameramen and brothers). Because our memories don’t seem to work very well from our matches in the past, I’ve decided to keep up with things on my site. Ya know, just for future reference (ha ha).

Here’s what happened in a nut shell: I beat Jim Tutt, I think everyone beat Jim, but he has a serious shoulder injury severally limiting his motion. Then I beat Michael who had been talking up his game during the entire week, I would beat him again later too. Clark then beat me in deuce, 22 to 20. I then killed Shaw 21 to 10. Shaw then beat me 21 to 19. Then in the tie-breaker I smashed him again 21 to 13. After dinner, the bad boys from FSN showed up. The night before, Matt beat Clark 4 times in a row. Clark is good and I rarely beat him, but Matt went on to destroy him 2 more times in a row. Then I played Matt twice and beat him both times…strange????. Alvin also beat Matt the night before. To make things even weirder, Matt’s brother, Andy beat me and then Clark beat Andy. I know it’s confusing and has nothing to do with fishing, but this information is accurate and needs to be documented. Sorry it has to be at your expense. In doubles, Clark and Mike Surman are pretty good, but Alvin and I are tough to beat. We dominated the table at Beaver this year. Clark and I also took on the FSN brothers twice and we split wins. We will again have access to a table at Tellico next month, so I’m sure we’ll play some more! I’ll unfortunately be keeping you up to date on the PONG Tour.

Enough of that.

Congrats to Tabu Tackle’s own Fred Roumbanis for his BASS win on Lake Murray this past weekend. Kelly Jordon also made the top 10 there…cool! There’s really nothing new to report with Tabu Tackle or any other sponsor news. Well one thing from Yamamoto is a prototype double tail grub that will take over and become the new king of double tails. This thing is amazing and all I can say is…you’ll see!

As far as the website goes, we’re getting more and more traffic as the season goes on. We have decided to make everything free from now on and refund everyone who has already joined. We’ve had some Pay Pal issues and have also had some advertising interest lately so we feel this is the best thing to do. This won’t change anything with the videos at all, everything will go as it has all season for the rest of the year.

Also, we’ve got a lot of new bonus video and “In the Box” videos that will be filtering onto the site soon. Also a new “Joe to Pro” is coming soon with one of the hottest anglers on the BASS Elite Series.

Well…I’m going to get ready for a little smallmouth fishing on Lake Erie tomorrow. We will be testing a new prototype line from Gamma that will probably debut later this year…can’t wait! I’ll talk to you later,

Dave
